Dune the movie. What happened?

It's been 30 years since the film Dune was released to wide disappointment. It seemed to have had so much going for it: a popular, epic source novel (Frank Herbert's Dune); a talented, artistic director, David Lynch; skilled actors including Kyle MacLachlan, Max von Sydow, and Patrick Stewart; and a big budget from an experienced, well-known executive producer, Dino De Laurentis. So, how did it turn out to be the box-office bomb that Siskel and Ebert named the worst movie of 1984? Join Paul Sammon (who made the official promo film for Dune), Bill Bryan (who designed the Dune stillsuits), and Henry Mayo (Dune was his first professional movie-making experience) to find out what happened and the experiences they had on the Dune sets in Mexico, where it was filmed.
